Hidden gem dishes up a colorful, tasty cuisine!
It is said “you cannot judge a book by its cover;” so too for the Peruvian Grill. Located in a small, non-descript strip mall tucked back from the Beneva and Clark intersection it is easy to miss. Upon arrival, one’s first impression might be to skip this spot; that would be a mistake for a number of reasons. Family owned and operated, the rustic, downscale feel of the restaurant is part of the charm. Authenticity, good food, reasonably sized portions, and value are the attributes that make the Peruvian Grill stand out.
Many people unfamiliar with Peruvian cuisine often times will assume it is spicy, meaning hot. Although some dishes may exhibit some heat, most Peruvian dishes are a combination of spices, textures, and sauces. With cultural influences from Europe and Asia, most Peruvian cuisine will comprise beef, pork, chicken, seafood, beans, rice, potatoes, and corn.
The menu at the Peruvian grill offers a range of items with perhaps a slight skew toward seafood.
For our dinners we order the following:
Ensalada de la Casa: House salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onions, peas, corn) $5.00
Fresh crisp garden greens with a nice mix of colorful veggies.
Arroz con Mariscos: Peruvian paella, steamed seafood, rice with saffron. $16.00
Filled with a variety of seafood and veggies, every forkful had different flavors, visually pleasing.
Pescado alo Macho: Fish fillet topped with creamy yellow pepper, seafood sauce, served with rice and potato. $15.00
A very nice mix of flavors and textures; very filling.
Shrimp Picante: Shrimp in a creamy Peruvian yellow pepper sauce, served with rice, potato and sweet pantains. $16.50
Sauce was tasty with a little kick, ample serving of small shrimp and 1 large prawn.
Torte de Chocolate: Home made chocolate cake. $4.50
A generous portion rich and delicious.
The service at the Peruvian Grill is friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and eager to explain the various items on the menu. There is a limited selection of beer, wine, and soft drinks to accompany your meal.
Looking for some culinary exploration but do not wander too far, consider the Peruvian Grill; simple, flavorful, rustic charm.
